Freedom 250
Race Report
Green flag, they form three wide for the lead into turn one! Kirkwood is clear for the lead! Full course caution for debris.
Green, Kirkwood leads Palou and McLaughlin.
Lap 18, another caution for debris.
Lap 37, David Malukas tags the inside wall and he slams the outside wall. Sting Ray Robb comes into the scene with nowhere to go and slams into Malukas as he’s parked on the track. The caution is out.
Kirkwood, Palou and most of the leaders head for the pit lane. Rahal stays out and he’s handed the lead.
Penalty: Alex Palou has been served a pass-thru penalty after clipping a tire on the pit lane.
Lap 44
Green, Rahal clips the wall at the launch. He leads VeeKay. Kirkwood restarts in 5th. Marcus Armstrong makes a late dive to the inside and he clips Christian Rasmussen and Rinus VeeKay. The caution is out.
Green, Rahal leads with Kirkwood all over his gearbox. Kirkwood has a run into turn four and Kirkwood cycles back to the race lead.
Lap 80, Kirkwood pits from the lead under green. He cycles right back to the race lead.
Lap 91, Kirkwood leads McLaughlin by 5 seconds.
36 to go, Kirkwood pits for what should be his final stop.
31 to go, McLaughlin and Power have pitted. Kirkwood now leads McLaughlin by 11 seconds.
25 to go, Alex Palou spins and he tags the concrete barrier. Palou has lost the front wing and the caution is out.
Green, McLaughlin drives it deep inside of Kirkwood into turn one. He slides right through the corner and into the wall! Felix Rosenqvist spins behind him and the caution is back out.
Green, Kirkwood leads Lundgaard and Power.
Kyle Kirkwood wins the Freedom 250!
