“What happened with Corey after the race was wrong, and it should not have happened.”
On Saturday, Martinsville Speedway hosted the ValleyStar Credit Union 300. It’s one of, if not the biggest Late Model Stock Car event of the year.
Corey Heim and Treyton Lapcevich played bumper tag in the closing laps of the race in the battle for 2nd. After the finish, the two made more contact and both racecars were destroyed.
Heim climbed from his car and began walking toward his hauler. He was then jumped by a mob of crew members.

Heim was punched in the face. Another crew member took a swing, missed and hit the hot dog menu sign.
Police stepped in to separate them and pulled Heim away from the scene. Penalties are highly likely to be issued as the event was sanctioned by NASCAR Regional.
Heim was recently signed by 23XI Racing. He’ll race full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series for car owner Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan in 2027.

Yesterday, Lapcevich issued the following statement…

“What happened with Corey after the race was wrong, and it should not have happened,” Treyten Lapcevich opened via social media.
“While I was not involved in the incident, I want to be clear that I do not condone any action that took place.”
“Emotions can run high after a race, and I was certainly frustrated and upset following Saturday night. I planned on have a conversation with Corey following the race, however, there is a clear line between being angry about what happens on the racetrack and allowing that frustration to become physical. What happened after the race for sure crossed that line.”
“No matter the circumstances, frustration from a race never justifies putting your hands on another competitor. I am glad Corey was able to walk away from the situation okay.”
“Those actions were unacceptable, and they do not reflect who I am as a person or as a competitor.”
