Kevin Harvick got into a little trouble with the wife during father/son weeks

Kevin Harvick and his son Keelan Harvick had quite a memorable month

The NASCAR schedule is a never ending grind. Except, this week leading into Darlington Raceway. NASCAR has a very rare off-week between Bristol and Darlington.

So, what are the big plans for the driver who’s won 7 races so far in 2018?

“I don’t know yet. Keelan has to go to school. That’s really the main priority. Everything will pretty much revolve around that and how that’s going,” Kevin Harvick states of his plans for the NASCAR off-week.

“I will be there, first day. Being home all summer, you just gotta make sure that things are going well. So, when you leave mom’s not pinned against the wall and not happy.”

“That’s part of the lifestyle that we live. It’s part of the situation that we constantly work on. Just to make sure that life in general is livable.”

“As he gets older and he does different things it becomes different in the amount of time that it takes. The off-week, where it falls, it revolves around what he does. That’s really the only plan because you never really know where it’s going to go on day one.”

Father Son Weeks

Leading up the break, Kevin Harvick spent a lot of time with his son. The highlight was Keelan Harvick strapped into his first race car. He drove an all white quarter midget. The  QT machine was a loaner from a friend of the family.

Did you catch any heat from your wife following the father and son adventures?

“Yeah, the quarter midget didn’t go over well. Eating pizza for dinner every night, didn’t go over well. Running the golf cart into the tree, didn’t go over well.”

“The victory lap kinda covered a lot of that up. It was really neat that we were able to make that happen. It was pretty cool to climb back into the car to do a victory lap. The first thing I did was reach over and give knuckles to my son in the passenger seat.”

After Kevin Harvick won the race at Michigan International Speedway, his son was invited to the victory celebrations. He grabbed the checkered flag and took a ride to victory lane in his dad’s winning race car.

“He did get stage fright though. They told me they had to basically carry him out. He got to the wall and he said, ‘I don’t wanna go. I don’t think this is a good idea.’ ”

“We got him over there. He was way more comfortable being right next to me. Just a great moment and super happy that NASCAR was willing to cooperate and let us do what we wanted to do.”

“What a memory. It pretty cool to celebrate stuff like that with your son, at work.”
