NASCAR Xfinity Series race results from Richmond Raceway on September 21st, 2018

Tonight, the NASCAR Xfinity Series takes the green at Richmond Raceway. It’s the playoff opener for the NXS division.

Christopher Bell and Dale Earnhardt Jr will lead the field to the green flag in the 250-lap event. It’s a one-off race for Dale Jr, his first NASCAR start in 2018.

Stage 1
Richmond – Xfinity

Laps: 75

Green flag, Bell gets the jump on the bottom. Allgaier is all over him on the bottom. They make light contact as Bell gets sideways off turn two. Dale Earnhardt Jr moves to 2nd.

Lap 6, Dale Earnhardt Jr is looking for the lead on the bottom. He’s lost all his momentum off the corner. Allgaier sweeps around him on the outside to take over 2nd. Allgaier isn’t done. He’s challenging for the lead on the outside. New leader, Justin Allgaier. Dale Earnhardt Jr moves to 2nd.

Lap 11, Dale Earnhardt Jr is all over the back bumper of Allgaier. Lap 22, he’s still there with the brakes glowing red. Christopher Bell has caught them both. Bell retakes 2nd.

Lap 30, Bell is all over the bumper of Allgaier. The #7 moves up the track to block an outside run. Bell will have to get it done on the bottom. Bell gets under him off turn four, he skates loose and rubs the door of Allgaier to save it.

Lap 34, they race through lap traffic. They split the lapper They comes out side by side. Allgaier holds the lead on the outside.

lap 42, Allgaier, Bell, Hemric and Earnhardt Jr run nose to tail for the lead. Bell gets into the bumper of Allgaier. Hemric clears them on and moves to the front of the field.

Daniel Hemric drives away. He wins stage 1 in the NXS race at Richmond Raceway!

Stage 2
Richmond – Xfinity

Laps: 75

The field heads for the pit lane. Christopher Bell is the first car off the pit lane. Tifft is off in 2nd. Tifft has an issue! The left front wheel is flat, he returns to the pit lane. Hemric will restart in 2nd.

Green, Bell gets the jump on the bottom. The outside lane struggles to get moving and Dale Earnhardt Jr moves to 2nd on the bottom.

Lap 100, Dale Earnhardt Jr has run down the leader. He rolls the outside in turn 3. He climbs to the right rear of Bell. Dale Earnhardt Jr is there. He takes the lead as they head into turn one!

Lapo 125, Dale Earnhardt Jr continues to lead.

Lap 145, Ty Majeski is around down the backstretch. Ryan Reed got into his right rear down the back stretch. Reed was attempting to make it three wide. Majeski made a hard impact with the inside wall, he went back across the race track and tagged the outside wall.

Dale Earnhardt Jr picks up the win in stage two of the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Richmond Raceway!

“That’s my first stage win of my career,” Dale Earnhardt Jr says over the radio in crew communications.

Stage 2 – NASCAR Xfinity Race Results: 1. Dale Earnhardt Jr; 2. Christopher Bell; 3. Daniel Hemric; 4. Ross Chastain; 5. Justin Allgaier; 6. Matt Tifft; 7. Elliott Sadler; 8. Tyler Reddick; 9. Cole Custer; 10. Austin Cindric; 11. Shane Lee; 12. Ryan Truex;

Stage 3
Richmond – Xfinity

Laps: 100

Dale Earnhardt Jr leads the field to the pit entry. He’s first in and first off. Bell is off in 2nd.

Green, Dale Earnhardt Jr gets the jump on the bottom as they both spin the tires. Bell runs wide into turn one but he holds 2nd off turn two.

Lap 160, Katherine Legge is around and sliding through the infield grass. She was three wide on the inside off turn two. They ran out of space and she was shoved to the infield.

Green, Earnhardt jr spins the tires once again on the bottom. He leads into turn one. Bell is coming around the top, Earnhardt Jr shuts the door and swings to the outside wall off turn two.

Lap 200, Dale Earnhardt Jr leads Daniel Hemric by a full second.

Lap 210, the leaders just ran through a bulk of lap traffic. The lead has been cut to .5 seconds. Clear track ahead.

Lap 215, Matt Tifft has climbed back through the field. Tifft runs 4th after a flat tire before the green in stage two. Right now, he’s the fastest car on the race track.

Lap 220, the caution is back out. The field heads for the pit road. Matt Tifft moves from 4th to 1st! Tifft leads Earnhardt Jr to the pit exit line.

Green, Dale Earnhardt Jr spins the tires on the outside lane. Tifft leads into turn one.

Cendric is in the left rear off turn two. That stacks up the field as he collects it. Allgaier and Reed split Cindric and Custer.

They’re four wide heading into turn three. Cindric tags the left rear of Custer and he skates up the hill and tags Allgaier. The Xfinity point leader of Justin Allgaier is around and into the outside wall. The caution is out once again.

Green, Tifft and Bell bang fenders at the line. Bell came down a bit and put a light bump into the door. They’re even into turn one. Bell has the momentum on the high side. Bell leads off turn two.

11 to go, Ross Chastain slides Tifft into turn three. He’s clear off turn four.

9 to go, Bell leads Chastain by .7 seconds.

3 to go, CHastain has moved to the third lane on the race track. He’s taking out time to the leader, a tenth at a time. He’s going to come up short.
