Amy Earnhardt: “It’s not worth the risk”
Dale Jr is retiring from full-time NASCAR competition at the end of the 2017 NASCAR season. The Daytona July race was likely to be the last Daytona race run by Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Until, Dale Earnhardt Jr’s pole at Daytona International Speedway. That has presented him with another opportunity to run Daytona. His pole effort auto-qualify’s him for the 2018 Clash at Daytona.
Dale Earnhardt Jr stated several weeks ago that it was “actually up to Amy” on whether or not he run the 2018 Clash. Jr stated, “Rick would have to convince Amy.”
Now, Dale Earnhardt Jr has confirmed that Amy doesn’t like the idea. “Amy doesn’t want me to run it.” he said at the NASCAR Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
“I’ve got a pole now and I kind of want to run it,” he said Tuesday. “But we’ll see if she warms up to the idea.”
Naturally, JR Nation responded by locating Amy Earnhardt on Twitter.
Amy Earnhardt’s Response:
“I’ve received many comments on Dale Jr running the 2018 Clash, based on whether or not I give my blessing. Considering his struggles last fall with his injury, we are very blessed that he is now healthy, happy & able to enjoy his final season…and hopefully many years beyond racing. So, my answer is simple. It’s not worth the risk of his health.”
Dale Earnhardt Jr sat out for the majority of the 2016 NASCAR season. It was his most recent issues with concussion like symptoms. Several early season hits to the wall created the issue.
