Kyle Busch talks NASCAR speeding penalties at Bristol Motor Speedway

Kyle Busch: “Sometimes I do it on purpose, I guess.”

So far, Kyle Busch is 2 for 2 at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend. He dominated the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event on Wednesday. He then followed that up by dominating the NASCAR Xfinity Series race last night.

But, it didn’t come easy. In both races, Kyle Busch had to drive fro the tail to win. He was caught speeding, in both races.

But why twice, at Bristol?

Kyle Busch explains the unique situation to Claire B Lang on Sirius XM, “We have a study. Well, NASCAR sends out the pit road speeds, every single week. We tally ’em up and we look at ’em.”

“I am the number one rolling guy on pit road. Throughout the whole season.”

“So, we work really hard on being able to set our tachs and set our limits, to the limit. As close as we can get it.”

“We always try to figure out where the hot sections are on pir road. Here at Bristol, you can’t roll pit road in practice. Everywhere else, we always roll pit road in practice to get a read on it. Bristol, you can’t do that because the cars are park on pit road, both sides. You know, you have Xfinity on the backstretch and cup on the front stretch.”

“So, the only time you ever get that reading is when you finally run the race. You get a chance to check it, after the race. So, you’re always a race behind on pit road speeds here.”

“We knew it was a hot section. We didn’t know how close we were set on lights. Obviously, we were really on edge. So, we got busted for speeding. I just dialed back on my lights and we were fine after that.”

So, sometimes I do it on purpose, I guess.

Kyle’s not mad? He concludes, “They just want a show. They’re just going to call it out, as it is, anyway. So, sometimes I do it on purpose, I guess.”

Tonight, Kyle Busch will start 18th in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race.
