In his final season, Dale Earnhardt Jr took the top spot. He was too fast, eight times. Seven of those penalties came in the regular season.

“We can set this light bar, we can space these lights apart by 100 RPMs, 50 RPMs, 25 RPMs,” Dale Earnhardt Jr told NBC Sports back in August. “So if you set them really close together, it lights up really fast.”

“So this year, what we’ve done to be more competitive on pit road is to really close those gaps between those lights, to get really aggressive. When I get it right, we run within two-tenths of a mile an hour under the speed limit, but it does present you the opportunity to get busted a lot more often.”

Trevor Bayne sits 2nd on the list. All seven of his pit road speeding penalties were collected in the regular season. He didn’t pick up any on the playoffs.

Of playoff contenders, Kasey Kahne, Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Ryan Newman, Brad Keselowski and Martin Truex Jr were the most frequent speeders.

At Atlanta Motor Speedway, teams were hit with 13 speeding penalties.
