Michael Annett honors dirt racer Brad Doty with Darlington throwback
Michael Annett earned his best career NXS finish last week at Road America, placing second.
Annett’s best finish in four starts at Darlington is 11th, coming in 2010. The last time he raced there in NXS competition was 2012, and he finished 14th.
Annett’s No. 5 TMC Chevrolet will carry a throwback scheme this weekend honoring sprint-car legend Brad Doty.
This is the Brad Doty car from 1987. That year he collected wins all across the country; Ascot Park (prelim), Federated Auto Parts Raceway, Knoxville Raceway, Eagle Raceway, Santa Fe Raceway and 131 Speedway.
Annett is currently ninth in series points, but 11th on the playoff grid. He has 11 points in hand over the cutoff with three races left to run before the playoffs.
Quote: “With Jeremy (Clements) winning last weekend, it shook things up for the playoffs, but we just need to go to Darlington this weekend and do what we’ve been doing. I’m really glad to have Brad Doty’s colors on the No. 5 TMC Transportation Chevrolet this weekend. He’s always been a hero of mine.
“Our focus this weekend is qualifying better, and Jason (Stockert, crew chief) and the guys are giving me great cars, so we will go to Darlington with the intention of starting stronger, having another solid run and letting the points take care of themselves.”
