2017 Richmond Raceway Starting Lineup for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series
It’s the final race of the regular season. Today, they set the starting lineup via Raceway Raceway qualifying.

Round 1
The track is open, no cars are on track. They wait at the end of pit road. The sun is setting, every minute that goes by, the track gets faster.
Tires are also important here. In practice rounds, drivers are immediately complaining of no grip, on new tires.
16 minutes remaining, Gray Gaulding is the first car on track. 22.775 is his time.
10 minutes remain, Denny Hamlin is coasting his entire warmup lap. He’s aggressively weaving, at 10 mph. Shaking the shine off the tires without burning them down. He doesn’t pickup the throttle until turn 4. He’s 2nd. In that same time, Larson went to the top with a 21.884.
4 minutes remain, Clint Bowyer is sideways on his lap. He’s up to 9th and shuts it down.
2 minutes remain, Ryan Newman is on the bubble in 24th. Ricky Stenhouse up to 4th, Newman is knocked out.
1 minute remains, Dale Jr is now 24th. Newman is back out as is Jr. Dale Earnhardt Jr is in, he shuts it down on his warmup lap.

Round 2
Round 2 is open, a 10 minutes session. Matt Kenseth is the first car on track.
5 minutes remain, Clint Bowyer runs sideways off turn 4, under the flag stand. He’s forced to gather it up and run another lap.
“You ain’t gunna run any faster than that,” Dale Earnhardt Jr radio. He’s 15th with a 22.302.
1 minutes remains, Brad Keselowski and Ryan Blaney are bumped. Clint Bowyer is on the cut line. Ricky Stenhouse Jr runs the exact same lap time as Clint Bowyer! He gets it done on his 2nd lap, Bowyer is out, Stenhouse in.

Round 3
A short 5 minute session is green. Kurt Busch is the first car on track, 22.083 seconds. Denny Hamlin nips him by .002.
3 minutes remain, Matt Kenseth to the top, 22.055.
2 minutes remain, Truex Jr is on track. 5th for Truex on the first lap. 4th on lap 2.
Kyle Larson is tracking green. He spun his tires on the exit. He’s going to run another lap. Loose into turn 3.
The veteran gets it done. Matt Kenseth will lead the field to green at Richmond Raceway!
