Denny Hamlin finally comments on encumbered finish

Last week, Denny Hamlin won two races at Darlington Raceway. Problems appeared on Tuesday when he was hit with two encumbered wins.

He’s been quiet since NASCAR’s post-race technical inspection. At the Richmond Raceway press center, he was unavoidably asked the question.

“We just didn’t allow for running into the wall with 5 laps to go,” states Denny Hamlin in the press center at Richmond Raceway.

“We didn’t allow for the dirt and the grime to get in there and loosen those things up as bad as it did. It’s unfortunate,” the #11 Joe Gibbs Racing driver concluded.

Since the double cucumber weekend at Darlington. NASCAR has strengthened it’s ruling on rear suspensions. Now, any rear suspension penalty will automatically results in the highest L1 penalty.

The next team to receive a penalty on Section 20.14.2 Rear Suspension I-4 will get hit. How hard? A loss of 40 owner and driver points, a $75,000 crew chief fine and a crew chief suspension for 3 races.
