Ryan Blaney responds to Kyle Busch’s comments on young drivers
Racing News
Ryan Blaney: “If those certain people would be willing to do more things, then NASCAR would use them.”
Yesterday, Kyle Busch made a few statements about the push from NASCAR on the young talent in the sport.
“All you’re doing is advertising all these younger guys for fans to figure out and pick up on and choose as their favorite driver,” Busch stated during the NASCAR media day at the Charlotte Convention Center. “I think it’s stupid. I don’t know, I’m not the marketing genius that’s behind this deal.”
Today, a few of those younger drivers have responded to those statements. One of those is Ryan Blaney, the 24-year-old Team Penske driver.
“Yeah, I’m comfortable with it,” Ryan Blaney stated on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio. “I know a couple other people aren’t comfortable or excited to see NASCAR pushing these drivers, I heard yesterday.”
“If those certain people would be willing to do more things, then NASCAR would use them.”
“You know, I’ve always been willing to do some stuff, for NASCAR. And they’ve been great to me. That comes hand in hand. You have to be willing to do things, for NASCAR to do things.”
Ryan Blaney is very active on the NASCAr promotion side of the sport. So much so that NASCAR has funded an entire podcast for Ryan Blaney. The podcast can be listened to or viewed on the NASCAR website, Facebook Watch, SoundCloud and other channels.
“I’ve always been up to do that and that allows you to do some cool things,” Blaney refers to being open on the promotional side. “Some things, maybe you’re not a fan of. But, you go do [them] anyway because it helps the sport and it helps yourself.”
“That’s what we’re all about. We’re all in this together, it takes everybody to make it work.”
“I’m just lucky and happy to be part of that youth movement. There’s some great, young talent coming up. Whether it’s in the Cup Series, Xfinity or the Truck Series, it’s really cool to see them be a part of it.”
“Some of them you’ve watched for a long time. Some of them, I’ve raced with ever since I was a kid. It’s just nice to be part of that group. Hopefully, we can be a part of that group for a long time.”

William Byron
William Byron is another one of those young drivers who’s on the receiving end of the NASCAR push. He’s also the 2017 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion.
“I feel like it’s all relative,” Byron stated from the Charlotte Convention Center.
“When new guys come in, it’s a fresh thing to talk about. We are going to ultimately prove ourselves on the race track and show that we are capable of being part of this sport. I think that’s going to show over time.”
Byron will pilot the #9 car for Hendrick Motorsports in 2018. He is the replacement driver for Kasey Kahne.
