Ryan Blaney: “It’s a fresh start for that team too.”
Bubba Wallace’s first NASCAR start came in the very race that Blaney picked up his first win, Pocono Raceway. These two are good friends. If you follow the NASCAR snapchat, you’ll regularly find them sharing appearances on the channel.
In 2018, Bubba Wallace joins Richard Pretty Motorsports for his first full-time ride in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. At the same time, Ryan Blaney has moved to Team Penske in a full-time machine.
“I’m happy for him to get an opportunity like that. Honestly, I was really upset to see him sit out the second half of that year after the Xfinity ride let go,” Ryan Blaney said on Bubba Wallace.
“Yeah, he had a few starts with Petty when Aric was hurt. He did a great job in it. I’m happy they were able to make that work for this year.”
“I know they were working really hard on it in the off-season. It was cool to see it progress. He kept me updated, throughout it.”
“It’s a fresh start for that team too. Going to being a partner with RCR, new manufacture, new driver. I think that is really going to benefit that team well.”
“He knows the history behind the Petty name. It’s almost like when I was driving for the Wood Brothers. He understands it and wants to learn more about it.”
“He’s a history buff of the sport. I think that’s a good fit. He appreciates racing and where it’s come from.”
“I’m looking forward to racing him on Sunday’s.”
As Ryan Blaney went on the win the Duel at Daytona, Bubba Wallace finished 3rd. Blaney will roll off the grid in 3rd and Wallace starts 7th in todays Daytona 500.
