Kevin Harvick’s qualifying time is for pit selection only. He wrecked his primary car in the first practice session today. The team has gone to a backup and will start at the tail for the race. However, Harvick and team have elected not to qualify at all.
‘Bristol Bite’ better known as PJ1 has been applied yet again to the bottom groove. Until the field works that up the hill, the bottom lane is sure to be the preferred groove.

Round 1 – MENCS
Bristol Motor Speedway
15 minutes session in round 1 and 24 cars will advance to round 2. 3 minutes in, now cars have touched the track. The engines aren’t even fired as they sit at the edge of the pit lane.
Gray Gaulding is the first car on the track. He washes way up the banking in turn 3 and turns a 17.102. He runs 4 laps and gets his time down to a 15.739.
10 minutes remaining in the session. Only 1 car has set a time.
7 minutes remain and only 4 cars have turned a lap. 6 minutes remain, Denny Hamlin hits the track, he jumps to the top of the board.
The track is getting busy in a hurry. Everyone is glued to the bottom lane of the racing surface.
2 minutes remain, Hamlin has fallen to 14th. 1 minutes remains, he’s now 23rd. Hamlin is out. That early run has hurt the #11. He makes it back on track to try another attempt. Not good enough, Hamlin will start 25th.
“The track didn’t have enough heat in it,” Hamlin stated after his run.
Each car on the track gets faster than the next. The waiting game paid off for some. PJ1 Track Bite is the reason for that. As it heats up, it becomes more effective.
