The man was found on Monday morning in the parking lot of Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Following the 2018 Indianapolis 500 a man was found dead in one of the many parking lots of Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The body was found around 1:45 p.m on Monday, the day following the Indy 500. He was located in lot 6 on Georgetown Road by campers at the speedway.
Poilce have now identified the man as Adam Melchi. He was a 38-year-old and an avid Verizon Indycar Series fan.
The fan had witnessed the previous 21 years of the Indy 500. Many years ago, Melchi told his wife Sarah that he wanted his ashes spread at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The man is from the state of Illinois. The couple met at work. They both work at a high school in Illinois. Adam was administrative assistant and Sarah is a teacher.
“He was such a huge fan,” wife Sarah told USA Today. “And it’s devastating he died at the place where he wanted ashes spread.”
Autopsy results have yet to be released. At this time, the police do not believe the death to be suspicious. However, the cause of death is still under investigation.
Adam Melchi went to the race with a group of friends, the same group he always went with. However, he was one of the last in the group to leave.
Melchi was a father to five children. Two with his ex-wife, a step-child and two children with Sarah. Their youngest is 5 months old, she said.
“His babies will miss him,” she said. “He loved them so much. And me.”
Melchi’s favorite driver was Helio Castroneves and his favorite team was Team Penske.
