2018 Freedom 50 race results featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series
Tonight, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series lands at Mansfield Motor Speedway. It’s the newest dirt track on the schedule. Mansfield is a .44-mile high banked high speed oval.

Qualifying – Report
It’s his second time here, doesn’t matter. Hudson O’Neal is quickest overall following qualifying. His father Don O’Neal is second quickest.
“It looks like it’s going to be a little bit lane sensitive,” Hudson O’Neal says as he’s happy to start on the front row in his race.
Heat 1 – Report
Freedom 50
Hudson O’Neal and Dale McDowell will lead them to the start in the first heat race of the night. Green, Hudson O’Neal leads into turn 1. Mason Zeigler is around in turn 1. He lightly tags the inside wall and the caution is out.
Green, Hudson O’Neal leads again into turn 1. Owens is on the charge. Lap 2, Owens takes it to the bottom as O’Neal kicks up the loose dirt on the cushion.
O’Neal sticks with the high side in turn 3. He pulls to the right rear of Owens but Owens wins the race off turn 4. Hudson O’Neal drops to the bottom.
Lap 6, Drown had a flat. The caution is back out.
Green, Owens checks out. He wins the first heat race of the night!
Heat 2 – Report
Freedom 50
Scott Bloomquist and Jason Jameson set row 1 in the second heat race at Mansfield Motor Speedway. Green, Bloomquist and Jameson run side by side at the line.
Bloomquist noses ahead into turn 1. He drives it deep. It’s a slide job into turn 1. Bloomquist slides right across the nose of Jameson. That stacks up the outside lane.
Lap 2, Josh Richards is coasting back in turn 1. He might have cut a tire in the stack up. The caution is out with 1 lap complete. Crews get it changed, back out.
Green, Bloomquist leads Lanigan into turn 1. Bloomquist is taking an easy entry on the bottom, drifting up the banking and standing back on the throttle as he catches the cushion.
Lap 4, Jameson is slow on track. The caution is back out. The crew goes to work to change a tire.
Green, Bloomquist and Lanigan jump to the top in turn 1. Everyone else heads to the bottom. At the back, Richards is another driver at the top.
Lap 7, Bloomquist tries a new line. He cuts it to the bottom in turn 1. He pulls away from Lanigan.
Bloomquist wins the second heat race of the night.
Heat 3 – Report
Freedom 50
Don O’Neal and Dennis Erb Jr trail the pace truck ahead of heat race number three. Green, Don O’Neal wins the race into turn 1.
Don O’Neal has checked out. There’s a 3 car battle for 2nd behind him. Conley, Erb and Pierce run all over the track as O’Neal checks out.

Heat 4 – Report
Gregg Satterlee and Earl Pearson Jr set the front row in the final heat race of the night. Green, Pearson Jr hits the cushion in turn 1. Pearson wins the race off turn 2.
Pearson opens up a gap on Satterlee. Jonathan Davenport is all over Satterlee for 2nd. They run nose to tail all the way around the track.
Final lap, Davenport has a run on the high side of turn 3. Satterlee leaves the outside lane open. Davenport fills it but loses the race to the line by half a car length.
Several seconds earlier, Earl Pearson Jr took the win in the final heat race of the night in the 2018 Freedom 50!
Main Event – Report
Freedom 50
Jimmy Owens and Don O’Neal trail the pace truck ahead of the main event at Mansfield Motor Speedway. The winner will hit the road with a check for $12,000. Another 4 wide salute mixed with fireworks for the avid Ohio crowd and we’re ready for the start of the 50 lap main event.
Green flag, Owens noses ahead on the bottom into turn 1. Don O’Neal took an easy exit but he’s hard on the throttle off the corner. Don O’Neal pulls alongside and takes the lead on the high side off turn 2.
Lap 6, the yellow is out. Kyle Moore has slowed on the track. McCreadie heads for the pit area.
Green, Don O’Neal leads. Bloomquist runs 2nd, Owens is 3rd.
Lap 12, the leaders have moved up to the wall. Bloomquist nearly tagged the wall in the middle of turns 1-2.
Lap 14, Bobby Pierce is slow on the front stretch. The caution is out. Pierce was near the top 5 and moving forward after starting 14th. He’s now getting a push to the pit area. Pierce has climbed from the car.
Green, Don O’Neal leads. Bloomquist and Owens battle for 2nd. Earl Pearson Jr is trying to run on the pavement on the inside of turn 1. He bails on that lane quickly.
Lap 23, Darrell Lanigan is slow on track. The caution is back out. Satterlee hits the pit lane. Lanigan has retired his car.
Green, O’Neal leads.
Lap 32, the field has spread out. O’Neal leads Bloomquist but 10 car lengths. Owens and Pearson follow.
He’s on cruise control. Don O’Neal drives away to win the Freedom 50 at Mansfield Motor Speedway!
Tomorrow, the tour heads to Sharon Speedway. That will be followed by an event at Muskingum County Speedway.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will return to Mansfield Motor Speedway in a few months. August 24-25, the track will host the Dirt Million. The race has the potential to pay $1,000,000 to the winner.
