NASCAR crew member suspension amended by appeals panel

National Motorsports Appeals Panel adjusts ruling

Last week, Jeffrey W. Merritt was suspended indefinitely by NASCAR.

Section 2.11.a: “Any NASCAR Member charged with any violation of the law (misdemeanor and/or felony) shall notify NASCAR … prior to the next scheduled Event or within 72 hours of being so charged, whichever is earlier.”

He has done work for several teams over previous season. Most recently, he is listed as the front-end mechanic on the No. 22 truck of the AM Racing team in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series.

Appeals panel adjusts ruling on crew member suspension

This week, AM Racing elected to appeal the penalty handed by NASCAR. This week, the National Motorsports Appeals Panel heard his case.

They have amended the penalty:

The panel determined Merritt was in violation of the NASCAR rule. However, they adjusted the penalty to a $1,000 fine. In addition, the suspension has been set a two-races.

“We are very happy with The National Motorsports Appeals Panel’s ruling and have no further comment at this time,” AM Racing said in a statement.
