There’s new regulations in place. There’s a staging area at the end of pit lane. The middle lane most be open to avoid clogging. If a driver pull into that lane, he must enter the race track.

Additionally, if you advance to round two or round three and do not set a time then the time from the round prior will not count. Basically, if a driver advances to any round and fails to set a lap, they will start at the back.

Texas Qualifying
Round 1 – Report

Duration: 10 minutes (Top 24 advance)

The field pulls out of their stall. They all park it at the edge of the pit lane.

Timmy Hill has been caught for speeding on pit lane. “I forgot to do that,” driver radio.

5 minutes to go, one car pulls through the middle. The flood gates have opened. They all follow him off the pit lane at once. Just about every car is on the track!

4 minutes to go, Alex Bowman is in the wall. The red flag is out! He got loose in turns one and two and backed it into the wall off turn two.

35 of 39 drivers have set a time. Daniel Suarez and Paul Menard were not able to complete their lap before the red flag came out.

Suarez hits the track by himself.

2 minutes remaining, the field hits the track for a 2nd time. Clint Bowyer led the pack off the pit lane, he will not advance to round two.

Bowyer is upset that he was blocked by Ryan Newman on the pit lane. He thinks Newman should be disqualified. There is a rule against that.

Jimmie Johnson wins round one!

Round 2 – Report

Duration: 10 minutes (Top 12 advance)

The green is out on round two. The field has pulled to the edge of the pit lane, they wait.

4 minutes remain, no driver has set a time in round two. 3 minutes to go, Daniel Suarez is the only car on the race track. 28.743 for Suarez, that’s a top-5 time in round one and he did it by himself.

1 minute remains, every car heads for the race track. The center lane is clogged.

Drivers that did not make it to the line in time to start a 2nd lap: Kyle Larson, Ryan Blaney, Erik Jones, Martin Truex Jr, Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin, Chris Buescher, Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Bubba Wallace and Brad Keselowski.

Round 3 – Report

Duration: 5 minutes (Run for pole)

The field pulls out of their pit stall to wait at the edge of the pit lane. Daniel Suarez heads for the track by himself. Moments later, Erik Jones hits the track as well. Everyone else continues to wait.

1 minute and 8 seconds remain, the field heads for the race track! Denny Hamlin leads the pack.

Chase Elliott is quickest on the first lap. Jimmie Johnson tops him on his 2nd lap!
