NASCAR community mourns as Brenda Jackson has passed at age 65; Touching video highlights her personality

Born Brenda Gee, married Dale Earnhardt became Brenda Earnhardt and was forever in the NASCAR family.

She was an employee at JR Motorsports until the year of her passing. Her death was the result of a battle with cancer.

She served as an accounting specialist for the NASCAR Xfinity Series race team. Aside from that, she brought a straight-forward brand of humor to the hallways of the Moorseville, NC team.

Brenda Jackson was the daughter of NASCAR fabricator Robert Gee. Her father was a native of Virginia who built race-winning race cars.

Of those, Dale Earnhardt piloted machines built by Robert Gee. That led to a relationship between Brenda Gee and Dale Earnhardt.

The couple married in 1972. Together, they had two kids. Kelley and Dale Earnhardt Jr. As Dale Earnhardt worked on his racing career, the family separated and the kids moved in with their mom.

A house fire left all three with no home. Brenda returned to her home state of Virginia. In 1985, she married Willie Jackson, a firefighter.

As Willie retired, he and his wife Brenda moved back to North Carolina along with her step-daughter. Brenda was hired at JR Motorsports and remained with the company until her passing.

From the family

Late Monday night, several members of the Earnhardt family offered thought via social media:

Dale Earnhardt Jr (son): “I’m glad her suffering has ended and she can be at peace. She would be in tears of happiness over the words of support and remembrance she’s been shown today. Our family appreciates it as well. She will live in our hearts forever,” Dale Earnhardt Jr said late Monday night.

Kelley Earnhardt Miller (daughter): “My mom, my biggest advocate and my friend…at peace that she’s at peace. No more suffering & no more pain…made new in the arms of Jesus, reunited w/ones she loves & as a believer I’ll be reunited w/ her one day. Thank you to all that are offering your prayers, hugs & support,” Kelley Earnhardt Miller said via twitter.

Karsyn Elledge (granddaughter): “My heart is so broken. But at the same time I am so glad you aren’t suffering anymore Mimi. Always your boo”

Brenda Jackson: Mother to the Earnhardt’s

“I am a very, very lucky woman, as I get to interact with my kids almost every day,” she said last year.

“I’ve got two bright, beautiful kids that I am very proud of. Kelley’s standards are very high. She conducts herself that way and she expects that of everyone else. Dale Jr. just gets bigger and bigger.”

“I am very proud of his accomplishments, but as a mother I am proudest of the way he handles himself with honesty and the way he cares about his family and his friends.”

Jackson is preceded in death by her parents, Hazel May Overton Clark and Robert Edward Gee, and her sister Sandra Gee.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, William M. Jackson Jr.; her children Dale Earnhardt Jr. (wife Amy), Kelley Earnhardt Miller (husband L.W.), step-daughter Meredith Davis (husband Jonathan); her grandchildren Karsyn Elledge (18), Kennedy Elledge (13), Wyatt Miller (7), Callahan Davis (16), Claudia Davis (13), and Isla Rose Earnhardt (11 months); her brothers Robert Gee (wife Beverly) and Jimmy Gee; and her beloved Pekingese dog, Scully.
