Clint Bowyer threw multiple punches as Ryan Newman sat in his car after the NASCAR All-Star Race
Clint Bowyer started on the pole position in the NASCAR All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He finished 3rd in stage one but dropped through the field in the three stages that followed.
Bowyer fought an ill-handling car all-day. Early in the event, he made contact with Ryan Newman.
After the race, Ryan Newman had that in his memory as the two drivers finished next to each other on the race track. He gave a shot to the back bumper of Bowyer after the field crossed the start finish line.
Bowyer then returned that shot with a knock to the door. Newman responded by tapping him on the back bumper once again.
The two drivers slowed into turn three as they were heading for the pit lane. Newman hung on Bowyer’s left rear. Newman held the wheel straight as Bowyer came down the race track and across the nose of Newman.
Bowyer turned himself into the apron. He then slid up the banking in turn three and into the wall.
Bowyer drove his wrecked race car to the pit lane. He climbed from the car in a hurry. With his helmet on he ran over to the car of Ryan Newman and began throwing punch after punch as Newman sat in his car with his helmet off.
Newman then walked over to the car of Bowyer as the two drivers talked it out. Bowyer was under the impression that Newman was a lap down, which he was not.
Both drivers were called to the NASCAR hauler following the altercation. How did that go?
NASCAR comments on the fight between Clint Bowyer and Ryan Newman at Charlotte Motor Speedway
“They had a little difference of opinion out there on the race track,” NASCAR’s Scott Miller addressed the media after the race. “And they had a little difference of opinion here in the trailer.”
“I think we kinda understand what went on out there. I think they’re in a pretty good place.”
“We’re going to keep and eye on it. We’ll have to certainly monitor that next week and moving forward.”
“Great race. A lot of passion.”
Regarding the fight, “Aren’t the kinds of things that you want. But, out of a night like tonight you almost kind of expect it. You know, some temper to flair.”
“That’s what we had. But, I think we’re in a pretty good place with it.”
NASCAR fighting penalties?
Miller was asked if he expected penalties to be issued to either driver after the NASCAR fight. If so, penalties are generally announced on the Tuesday after the race.
“I don’t think so, no.”
“I don’t really want to get into talking about penalties and reason why. Every situation is different. We handle every one different. It depends on what they say and where we think they are. And that’s between us and them.”
