Clint Bowyer extends NASCAR contract ahead of home race weekend
This weekend, NASCAR heads to Kansas Speedway. The track is hometown territory for NASCAR veteran driver Clint Bowyer.
Ahead of the weekend, Stewart-Haas Racing has announced that Clint Bowyer’s contract has been extended. He will remain with the team through 2020.
The 2020 season will be Bowyer’s fourth year with the team. It’s also his 15th in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.
“Clint Bowyer is a racer to his core who brings passion and energy to our race team,” said Stewart, who co-owns SHR with Haas Automation founder Gene Haas.
“He’s exactly who I wanted to drive my No. 14 car and we’re very happy to have him continue with Stewart-Haas Racing,” Stewart concluded.
This weekend is a crucial weekend for Bowyer. He remains under the cut line.
Only 8 drivers will remain eligible for the NASCAR Playoffs after the race at Kansas. Currently, Bowyer sits 24 points out of a transfer position. It’s not a must win situation, but it’s close.
Clint Bowyer on returning to Stewart-Haas Racing
“I’m proud to be back with Stewart-Haas Racing next year and very happy to announce it the week leading into my home race,” said Clint Bowyer.
“This is a team filled with racers who love to compete, and as a racecar driver, it’s exactly where you want to be.”
“Great equipment, great teammates, and we’re all backed by great people, which starts at the top with Tony and Gene. They know how to build some fast Ford Mustangs and I’m the lucky guy who gets to drive ‘em,” Bowyer concluded.
Bowyer has 500 starts in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. He’s collected 10 wins and 80 top-5 finishes.
