A viral post of stolen cars led to many being recovered
Orlando Classic Cars is an auto dealer showcasing 70 collector cars in their showroom. 16,000 square feet of warehouse space hold the machines which are shown on appointment only.
Founded in 2003, the company specializes in low mileage originals. Cars are from the 1920’s and up.
19 of these cars were stolen in late May.
Social media responded in a hurry! They made an announcement of the stolen machines and social media went to work. As the post went viral, car enthusiats had their eyes on the lookout.
So far, 9 of the 19 cars have been recovered! The first to be recovered was a 1962 Corvette.
Tuesday recovery
“Thanks to facebook friends and community the 1962 Corvette was recovered late tonight! Found in the parking lot of an apartment complex about 13 miles from the shop. No damage,” the company stated via facebook.
“I received a call from a local resident who saw the car shortly after seeing the post which was sent to him by one of his friends! Thanks to so many for sharing this and a special thanks to Taylor Shenuski who helped get this post out there and Henry Urena who staked out the car with me until police arrived!”
“It’s now 3:15 am, it’s been a long, difficult and emotional day as I’ve realized how many wonderful friends I have. When they ask if there’s anything they can do to help I know they mean it! Their concern for me could be heard in their voices and felt in the words of their emails, text and comments. Thank you.”
“For those who jump to accusations of insurance fraud all I can say is I’m just glad I’m not like you. I don’t slander people without knowing facts. I’m amazed that this post worked in recovering the ’62 Fulie!”
Later that night, more were recovered…
“After recovering the 1962 Corvette from a Facebook tip last night, the Orange County Sheriff’s department continued their search and recovered the 1990 Buick Reatta at 4 am. It was near the shop. They also recovered the 1978 Seville, the 1976 Seville and the 1983 Riviera today (not sure where they found these yet).”
“Late this morning I was stunned to receive a second Facebook tip which resulted in the recovery of 4 more cars at one apartment complex on the northeast side of Orlando, 35 miles away, in the area of Alafaya Trail/Avalon Park. The 1990 Range Rover, 1967 Cadillac convertible, 1977 Grand Prix and 1956 Oldsmobile were found there!”
“Thank you Facebook friends, thank you Orange County Sherriff’s Office and thank you to the callers who phoned. I’m truly amazed!”
