It was a busy race weekend for NASCAR Cup Series officials in the tech line
Over the weekend, New Hampshire Motor Speedway hosted a single race. The NASCAR Cup Series took to the 1-mile oval on Sunday.
John Klausmeier, the crew chief for Clint Bowyer is set to face a one-race suspension after NHMS. Series officials discovered two loose lug nuts after Sunday’s event.
One loose lug nut is a $10,000 fine for the crew chief. Two loose lug nuts is a $20,000 fine in addition to a one-race suspension for the crew chief.
Klausmeier will be absent from the pit box during the first race at Michigan International Speedway this week. It’s a double-header weekend, Klausmeier is eligible to return for the second race on the weekend.
New Hampshire race winner Brad Keselowski, Martin Truex Jr and Tyler Reddick all saw one loose lug nut. Each of those crew chiefs will be fined $10,000.
Crew chief for Bubba Wallace and Corey LaJoie suspended
Ahead of the green flag, two more crew chiefs were handed a suspension as cars rolled through pre-race inspection.
Jerry Baxter (No. 43 crew chief) and Ryan Sparks (No. 32 crew chief) were each suspended following pre-race inspection. They have already served that suspension as they were absent from the pit box at New Hampshire.
Both cars were found to be in violation noting improperly mounted ballast.
Both cars were stripped of their draw for starting position in Sunday’s race and forced to start at the rear. Each car was also handed a 10 point penalty in car and owner points.
