Another new NASCAR team enters the ring in 2022
Team Hezeberg will make their NASCAR Cup Series debut in 2022. The team has partnered with Reaume Brothers Racing.
The 2022 NASCAR Next Gen machine has cut down the mountain it takes to enter NASCAR at the cup level. The spec chassis removes much of the development costs and make it easier for new teams to jump into the sport.
At least, that was the idea. And, it appears it’s working out just like that.
Team Hezeberg will field a part-time entry. It’s formed by Hezeberg Systems out of the Netherlands, and Reaume Brothers Racing based in Mooresville, North Carolina.
Team Hezeberg: Drivers
Drivers: NASCAR Whelen Euro Champion Loris Hezemans and former Formula One Champion Jacques Villeneuve.
Hezemans made his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut in 2019. He drove for BJ McLeod Motorsports at Road America, finishing 22nd. The 24-year-old also ran two races in 2021.
Villeneuve has also dipped his toes in the stock car racing world. The 50-year-old has four NASCAR Cup Series starts:
Talladega (2007) 21st
Phoenix (2007) 41st
Indianapolis (2010) 29th
Sonoma (2013) 41st
Villeneuve has also made 9 starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. He grabbed 1 pole award and four top 5s.
The new team is scheduled to touch the track for the first time October 10-11 in the Next Gen Test at Charlotte. Hezemans will drive the machine Monday with Villeneuve jumping in the seat on Tuesday.
