Martin Truex Jr will return to the NASCAR Cup Series in 2023
Silly season is in full effect. Martin Truex Jr was one of the headlines. However, this weekend at Nashville Superspeedway he’s removed his name from that list.
The driver previously hinted that he was still feeling out the new Next Gen car. He was unsure if he wanted to return. His contract with Joe Gibbs Racing was set to expire at the end of the 2022 season.
Now, Martin Truex Jr has announced that he’ll be returning in 2023.
Martin Truex Jr talks the 2023 season
“I’m coming back,” Martin Truex Jr stated of the 2023 season in a brief press release from Joe Gibbs Racing.
“That’s what I’m doing. Really excited to keep driving this No. 19 car. We got a great team. Obviously haven’t had the season we wanted but we’re working hard to get things going in the right direction.”
“Honestly, it’s the first time in my career that I just had time to look at everything and say, ‘What do I want to do? Do I want to keep on this grind of 38 races and sponsor commitments?’ “
“The racing part of it is always fun, always a blast. But, there’s a lot of things you have to do, outside of that. I just wanted to make sure I was fully committed to doing that, still be happy and do the things I like to do away from the race track.”
“Worked it all out. And at the end of the day, I got a lot more races still to win. Been close on a few championships that I’d still like another shot at.”
“Got a lot of great partners. It’s tough to let all those people down,” Martin Truex Jr concluded.
Truex Jr has 31 career NASCAR Cup Series wins. He claimed the series title in 2017 and he’s finished 2nd in three of the last four seasons.
