NASCAR inspection failure; Penalty issued ahead of Texas Motor Speedway

This weekend, NASCAR is racing at Texas Motor Speedway. It’s the opening race in the round of 12 for the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.

Teams have yet to take to the track. A practice and qualifying session is scheduled for Saturday.

Earlier today, teams rolled through the pre-qualifying inspection line. Teams are required to pass all stations before practice.

2-Time Inspection Failures:

Aric Almirola is the only car to fail more than once. Per the rules, engineer James Kimbrough has been ejected. The team has also lost pit selection.

All other cars passed on their first or second attempt.

NASCAR Inspection Rules (Pre-Qualifying)

1 Inspection failure: No penalty, the team gets to go to the back of the inspection line and try again.

2 inspection failures: If a team fails twice, NASCAR will eject a crew member.

3 inspection failures: All of the above. They’ll also serve a pass-through penalty at the start of the race.
