Chase Elliott to miss 6 weeks; NASCAR replacement drivers named

Jordan Taylor and Josh Berry will drive the No. 9 car while Chase Elliott recovers

NASCAR driver Chase Elliott was injured in a snowboarding accident last Friday. The incident took place while on vacation in Colorado.

The same day as the injury, Elliott went into surgery. The injury suffered was a fractured tibia per a team statement.

Following a successful surgery, Elliott was released from the hospital on Saturday. He then returned home as Josh Berry piloted the No. 9 car at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Elliott is now in recovery from the injury. Today, Hendrick Motorsports stated that Elliott is estimated to be absent from the seat for six weeks.

Berry struggled at LVMS. However, much of that might have been out of his control as he stated that he was struggling with a hung throttle, throughout the event.

Moments ago, Hendrick Motorsports announced that Josh Berry will drive the car for all the oval events while Chase is absent. Additionally, IMSA driver Jordan Taylor will race the machine at Circuit of the Americas.

Rick Hendrick comments

“We’re focused on getting Chase back to 100%, so we’ll take however much time is necessary and make sure he has the best resources available,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports.

“Josh was impressive this weekend under difficult circumstances, and we look forward to having him drive the oval tracks until Chase is able to return.”

“Jordan is a world-class road racer and has recently been working with our Garage 56 team preparing for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He’ll be able to step in and do a great job at COTA.”
