Project 91 returns for Circuit of the Americas
Kimi Räikkönen is set to return to the NASCAR Cup Series. He’ll be making his second start in the series as he returns to Trackhouse Racing.
Räikkönen will drive the No. 91 car for Trackhouse Racing. He’ll run March 26 at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas.
Räikkönen is the 2007 F1 World Champion. He is a highly experienced road racer.
Last year, the driver made his NASCAR debut at Watkins Glen. In that case, it was a track that was unfamiliar to the driver. COTA on the other hand, he’s raced at 8 times during his F1 career.
He’ll drive the No. 91 Onx/iLOQ Chevrolet Camaro. Darian Grubb will serve at the crew chief.
Kimi Räikkönen comments
“I had a fantastic time in NASCAR,” Räikkönen said in a team release.
“There was a lot to learn in a very short amount of time, but everyone was very helpful, the competition was a big challenge. This time I get to race on a track I am familiar with so there won’t be as steep of a learning curve. I want to have fun, but also do as well as we can.”
“I’m sure there are a lot of drivers that would like to have a chance to try NASCAR,” said Räikkönen. “It’s not very easy, so maybe it will open some doors in the future for more chances to try and get more Europeans into the sport.”

Justin Marks comments
Trackhouse Racing field the No. 99 and No. 1 full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series. The No. 91 car is an entry designed to place stars from other forms of motorsports into NASCAR.
“When we announced Kimi last year I said he was the global superstar I had in mind when we created PROJECT91,” Justin Marks stated.
“I think you saw the fan reception across the world and Kimi’s performance in the car was proof of the concept. Kimi’s following is massive and it’s great for NASCAR, Trackhouse plus I think Kimi really enjoys our racing.”
