JJ Yeley comments after getting wrecked by Denny Hamlin

JJ Yeley vs Denny Hamlin at Richmond Raceway

On Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series unloaded in Richmond, Virginia. The opening stage saw drama between Denny Hamlin and JJ Yeley.

Hear from JJ Yeley below.

Hamlin was handed his first speeding penalty of the day in stage one of the event. That sent him to the tail of the field.

As Hamlin was coming back through the field, he found himself three wide. JJ Yeley got loose under him and doored the No. 11 machine.

In the next corner, Hamlin lined up the rear bumper of Yeley and sent him into turn one. Yeley backed his machine into the outside wall and picked up significant damage.

JJ Yeley comments on Denny Hamlin

“It was pretty simple, he just run me over,” JJ Yeley told Frontstretch after the race at Richmond.

“I’m assuming he wanted a caution. I mean, there was no sun in his eyes.”

“I don’t know. It could have been anything from a guy who’s been preaching respect for the last couple weeks.”

“It seems really silly. On a restart, we’re running two wide. He just got in a hurry and ran me over. Wasn’t much I could do.”

“This is one of the better cars we’ve had this year. They’ve been working hard on getting me a better product and they did that part.”

“Just had to nurse it to the end.”

JJ Yeley looked like he had intentions of getting to the bumper of Hamlin under the caution.

“What’s the point?”

“He’s damaged me car. I’m obviously upset. We’re not out there to play chicken and mouse for me to go out there and destroy his race car.”

“I doubt that he apologizes. I doubt that he really even cares. … As a race car driver, you never forget those things.”
