The Kaulig Racing appeal for hood louver violation nets different result than the Hendrick Motorsports appeal
On March 15, 2023 Kaulig Racing was handed an L2 penalty for part modifications. It was related to the hood louvers confiscated at Phoenix Raceway.
The team was docked 100 owner points, 100 drivers points and 10 playoff points. The crew chief was suspended for four races and fined $100,000.
NASCAR Rule Book: Section 10.5.1.A Guiding Principles Relative to Penalties; 14.1.C,D&Q Overall Assembled Vehicle Rules; 14.5.4.2.A Radiator Duct.
Hendrick Motorsports was handed the same penalty, for the same hood louver violation. Last week, the HMS appeal was heard and the ruling say all points reductions removed from the penalty.

National Motorsports Appeal Decision
Here is what they stated on their ruling:
– “That the Appellants violated the Rule(s) set forth in the Penalty Notice.”
That the Panel amends the original Penalty assessed by NASCAR to read:
– “$100,000 fine and 4 race suspension for Trent Owens.”
– “Loss of 75 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Team Owner and Driver points.”
– “Loss of 10 NASCAR Cup Series Team Owner and Driver Playoff points.”
The Appeals Panel members for this hearing:

It’s worth noting that the appeals panel for the Kaulig penalty was a different panel than that of the Hendrick Motorsports appeal.
Kaulig Racing has the option to send their appeal to the Final Appeals Officer.
