In July 2001, NASCAR returned to Daytona International Speedway for the first time since the tragic crash. Dale Earnhardt Jr drove to victory lane and the crowd erupted. It was his first win since the crash that took his father.

Earnhardt went to victory lane in a special Budweiser paint scheme. Now, in 2023, that paint scheme is set to be return.

Aric Almirola will run the paint scheme at Darlington Raceway on May 14, 2023.

“The team asked me to pick my favorite paint scheme for this year’s Too Tough To Tame throwback race,” Aric Almirola said of the paint scheme.

“Dale Jr.’s 2001 Daytona win in the iconic baseball scheme was the first that came to mind. An iconic and healing moment in our sport’s history. Honored to run it next weekend.”

The Goodyear 400 is an annual throwback weekend with nearly all teams running paint schemes of previous seasons. This year, the race is run during NASCAR’s own 75th anniversary.

Stewart-Haas Racing tweeted, “Knocked it out of the park.”
