NASCAR Penalty Report: Darlington Raceway (May 2023)

Two suspended following the NASCAR race at Darlington Raceway

Last week, NASCAR raced at Darlington Raceway. The famed 1.366-mile hosted the annual throwback race. Following the weekend, two NASCAR Cup Series teams have been penalized.

First, Erik Jones and Legacy Motor Club have lost two crew members for the next two races. The No. 42 car lost a wheel during the race which caused a big pile up off turn two.

Also, Tyler Reddick and the 23XI Racing team have also been penalized. Their penalty is due to ballast containers discovered during pre-qualifying inspection.

Penalty Level: Safety

Infraction: (Sections 8.8.10.4.C) Loss or separation of an improperly installed tire/wheel from the vehicle Note: Loss of tire/wheel during the event.

Penalty: Crew members (Nate McBride and Adam Riley) have been suspended from the next two events.

Driver/Team: Tyler Reddick No. 45

Penalty Level: Safety

Infraction: (Section 14.11.2.1 A) Added Ballast Note: Any and all ballast added to the vehicle must be secured inside a ballast container(s). Additional ballast containers will not be permitted to be added to the chassis.

Penalty: Team assessed with the loss of 10 driver and owner points.
