Tyler Reddick cut to course to change a flat tire at Sonoma Raceway
Tyler Reddick suffered a flat tire in turn 11 with just 14 laps remaining in the race. He had the option of cruising around the entire track on three tires for most of the 1.99-mile course.
Or he could cut the course and head right for the pit lane with far less time lost. Reddick elected to cut across the drag strip, and violate the rulebook.
NASCAR stepped in to police the move. They handed Reddick a pass-through penalty.
Brad Moran explains the call
“Obviously, it changes it time and distance of the race,” NASCAR Cup Series director Brad Moran told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
