Simon Pagenaud not cleared to race following crash (Video)

Watch the violent Indycar crash at Mid-Ohio

Indycar is racing at Mid-Ohio this weekend. And in Saturday’s practice session, we saw a wild crash.

Watch the INDYCAR crash video below.

Simon Pagenaud suffered brake failure into turn four. The car was lunched into the runoff area and then sent into a violent barrel roll.

The car rolled 6 and a half times before coming to a rest on it’s roof against the tire wall. On the team radio, the driver noted he was ok.

The driver was able to escape the car with the help of the AMR Safety team.

“It was a hell of a ride for sure,” Simon Pagenaud said.

“Something broke and I couldn’t slow down. I tried to make the corner anyways, I was like, ‘Maybe I can.’ I know that gravel is (trouble). Michael Andretti has done it (in 1998). I guess I’m joining another legend, so that’s cool.”

“But I was just trying to bail out. It’s downhill, which is nuts. Basically, the car took off.”

“I hit the gravel and it just rolled. So, just glad I didn’t go over the tire wall and so glad we have the aeroscreen. I’m really thankful for INDYCAR and the aeroscreen safety.”

Indycar Statement

“Following this morning’s incident at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the driver of the No. 60, Simon Pagenaud, was evaluated and released by the INDYCAR medical team. As per INDYCAR protocol, Pagenaud has not been cleared to return to racing today. He will be re-evaluated (Sunday) morning.”

Update: Indycar has since announced that Pagenaud will not take part in Sunday’s race. Conor Daly will fill the seat.

Pagenaud will be re-evaluated again before the next event.
