Kevin Harvick disqualified after Talladega Superspeedway

NASCAR Cup Series driver Kevin Harvick disqualified after a window violation

Race winner Ryan Blaney has cleared post-race technical inspection. The No. 12 team is officially the winner.

However, 2nd place finisher Kevin Harvick has failed post-race tech inspection. NASCAR noted windshield fasteners as the reason for the DQ.

Harvick drives the No. 4 car for Stewart-Haas Racing.

NASCAR has taken engines from William Byron, Denny Hamlin, Justin Haley and Ryan Preece for a more detailed inspection at the NASCAR R&D Center.

Rodney Childers comments

Rodney Childers is the crew chief of the No. 4 car. On Sunday night, he took to X and commented on the situation.

“There have been times I’ve got caught doing something I shouldn’t have,” Rodney Childers commented via social media.

“Today, got DQ’d for the car buffering in the draft all day and some windshield bolts vibrating out. My guys had silicon on the threads and gobbed on the tip. Still came out.”

Childers concluded, “Not sure what else we could do.”

The above comment has since been deleted.

Update: Stewart-Haas Racing comments

On Monday, Stewart-Haas Racing issued the following statement:

“At the completion of the race, not all of our windshield fasteners were secure, as we had bolts that hold the windshield in place back out over the course of the 500 miles,” Greg Zipadelli, chief competition officer opened.

“We are in the process of diagnosing why this happened and how to prevent it moving forward.”

“We are disappointed in NASCAR’s decision to disqualify our racecar and the hard-earned finish by our driver and team, but we will not appeal. Our complete focus is on the remaining races on this year’s schedule.”

NASCAR Rulebook

Here’s the following from the NASCAR rulebook:

F: “Windshield fasteners must remain secure for the entire Event.”

P: “All fasteners must be securely fastened at all times during an Event.”

E: “Except in cases explicitly permitted in the NASCAR Rules, parts and/or assemblies must be assembled and utilized as outlined in the NASCAR Rules.”

Harvick is in his final season as a full-time driver in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Talladega was a playoff race in the Round of 12. However, Harvick was eliminated from the playoff in the first round.
