Rick Ware Racing close to having NASCAR charter repossessed

NASCAR has elected not to repossess charter owned by Rick Ware Racing

NASCAR’s charter system was the solution to franchises in the world of auto racing. 36 of them were originally issued.

However, NASCAR has an option to repossess a charter under special circumstances. A charter team would need to finish in the bottom 3 of the 36 charter teams, three years in a row.

The option was there to prevent teams from starting the race and parking it after a few laps.

The No. 51 charter owned by Rick Ware Racing was in danger of being re-claimed by NASCAR. The charter was changed to the No. 51 this season after running as the No. 15 in 2021 and 2022.

However, Bob Pockrass has reported that NASCAR doesn’t intend to claim the charter, despite the option to do so.

The value of a NASCAR charter has climbed significantly since their inception. The most recent charter sale was estimated around $40 million.
