There was some drama at Hickory Motor Speedway; Driver explains the protest

On Saturday night, Hickory Motor Speedway hosted a big late model event. However, some drama played out during the Fall Brawl in North Carolina.

Trent Barnes and his teammate took part in qualifying. However, the transponders suffered an error.

Barnes started the feature later that night. However, the transponder issues continued.

At the halfway break, the crew went to work to attempt to fix the issue. Barnes then returned to the track for the restart of the race.

During the caution, officials parked Barnes due to the transponder issue.

However, the driver had no interest in parking it on the pit lane. Instead, he parked it right on the front stretch.

Barnes climbed from his machine and walked to the infield. A tow truck was deployed to remove the car ahead of the restart.

Apparently, NASCAR driver Josh Williams was also in attendance. Williams famously parked his car at the start/finish line during a NASCAR Xfinity Series event.

Williams stated, “I had about 3 people text me as it was going down lol.”

Trent Barnes comments

Barnes detailed his frustrations with the track via social media…

He opened, “Hickory decided to not clock both of our team cars the first time we went out for qualifying. Nothing new here…”

He was asked by fans if he parked or if it was a mechanical failure. He responded, “A big fuck you hickory indeed.”

The driver further explained via X, “Race monitor doesn’t pick both team cars up in qualifying?”

“Tells me under caution I can test my issues out next green flag run and we would go from there. They decided to park me without letting me test our fix…”

He added, “Hickory Speedway is a shit hole period.”
