Josh Berry disqualified in late model event

The KHI entry failed post qualifying inspection at Crisp Motorsports Park

This weekend, the 3/8-mile Crisp Motorsports Park in Cordell, Georgia is hosting Speedfest. It marks the season opener for the ASA Super Late Model division with a $10,000 payout to Saturday’s feature winner.

Josh Berry drives the No. 4 car for Stewart-Haas Racing. However, it’s the off-season for the NASCAR Cup Series and the 33-year-old is still spending time in the seat.

Berry is racing in the ASA Super Late Model division. He’s driving the Kevin Harvick Inc fielded machine.

On Friday, ASA Super Super Series teams took to the track for practice and qualifying. Berry timed 3rd overall of the 29 late model entries.

However, the car failed post qualifying inspection. The car was found fitted with a 5″ air cleaner, the rules limit the height to just 4″.

There were new rules implemented for 2024. This was an oversight by the team.

Josh Berry comments on getting disqualified

“The qualifying lap, it was a big improvement from what we had in practice,” Josh Berry told Racing America.

“We did a lot of work in a short period of time. Got the car much better.”

“Unfortunately, got disqualified there for the height of the air filter. I guess that’s an updated rule for 2024. I don’t know, I haven’t looked at the updates.”

“I’m sure it’s there. Rules are rules and we were wrong. It was a good learning experience.”

“The super late model program at KHI is still very new. We ran one race at the [Snowball] Derby. We’re working hard just trying to catch up.”

“It definitely is a pretty substantial setback. I think if we just be smart we can get a solid finish tomorrow.”

“I really enjoy coming and racing these cars. Just to be a little more hands on, learn and work on things. It’s been a lot of fun.”

“This is the type of racing that I’ve watched and admired for a long time.”

Berry will be starting at the rear of the field in Saturday’s main event. Berry estimates that he’ll run just under 10 super late model events in 2024.
