Joey Logano penalized by NASCAR for illegal racing gloves

Chase Elliott and Joey Logano have been penalized ahead of the green flag at Atlanta Motor Speedway

Update: NASCAR issues penalty after Atlanta Motor Speedway

We’re just hours away from the green flag at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The NASCAR Cup Series will conclude the busy race weekend in Atlanta, Georgia.

Joey Logano was scheduled to start on the front row. However, that will not be happening.

Logano has been penalized by NASCAR. He was caught with gloves that were not SFI certified.

Section 14.3.1.1: Driver Protective Clothing/Equipment

The gloves were visible in the in-car camera during Saturday’s qualifying session.

With the penalty, Joey Logano will drop to the rear of the field for the green flag. He’ll also be required to serve a pass-through penalty at the start of the event.

Atlanta Motor Speedway has one of the longest pit lanes in the sport as pit lane actually starts in turn three. Logano will likely go two laps down as he serves the penalty.

Chase Elliott has also been penalized for unapproved adjustments. He’ll drop to the rear for the start.

Earlier this week, NASCAR confiscated parts off two cars fielded by Stewart-Haas Racing. Those parts will be inspected at the NASCAR R&D Center and any penalties will be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday.
