NASCAR puts confiscated illegal part on display (Video)

“We take it serious and we gotta change the culture in the Cup Series. That’s what we intend on doing.”

After the race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Chase Briscoe and the No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing team were issued a big penalty.

Watch the video of the illegal part below.

The NASCAR Next Gen car was suffering from too much heat in the cockpit during initially testing of the machine. NASCAR placed several ducts throughout the car to reduce that heat.

Those ducts are a stock part from a single source supplier. Stewart-Haas Racing elected to create their own duct.

The counterfeit part was installed inside the engine compartment.

The penalty for an L3 violation can range from 120 points to 180. And 25 playoff points to 50. The fines can be from $250,000 to $500,000.

The duct in question is suppose to be 3D printed at the NASCAR R&D Center. The parts are then sold to the teams and they are also installed by a 3rd party.

Brad Moran comments

“We want to be transparent on the penalties,” Brad Moran stated outside the NASCAR hauler at Sonoma Raceway.

“It was unfortunately, our first L3 penalty. With is pretty big. The biggest one to this point.”

“It was a part that was made, for whatever reason. It is a piece that should not have been made in the first place.”
