NASCAR confiscated roof air deflectors from two Stewart-Haas Racing cars during the race weekend. Those cars were the No. 10 driven by Noah Gragson as well as the No. 41 machine driven by Ryan Preece.

Now, both teams have been docked 35 points.

Additionally, we saw a unique penalty issued to Joey Logano after qualifying. In the footage from qualifying, Logano was seen using gloves with webbed fingers. That’s specially designed to plug the gap in the window next to the window net. With Atlanta being a superspeedway race, it could be an advantage. NASCAR disqualified his laptime and made him start at the rear of the field.

Logano has been fined $10,000. He already served a penalty during the race with a pass-through.

NASCAR Xfinity Series crew chief Jason Miller became physical with Kyle Weatherman after the race in Atlanta. Miller is the crew chief for JJ Yeley. That confrontation has led to a multi-race suspension.

Denny Hamlin comments on Joey Logano’s gloves

“It was not SFI approved. Folks, that’s like 10% of the story,” Denny Hamlin stated via his Actions Detrimental podcast.

“My guess is the glove was approved. But, when you add webbing in between the fingers, it probably needs to get re-approved. Because you’ve added material and they need to retest it.”

“But, that is not why NASCAR probably had an issue with this. Because this is likely considered an aerodynamic device.”

“What’s the difference in that and me putting something in my pocket, grabbing it then holding it out there to deflect air? It’s basically one in the same.”

“While, that’s what the rule stated is that they broke an SFI safety rule, this was not a safety problem.”

NASCAR commented on Joey Logano’s gloves

“We see time and time again at superspeedways and at other events where the drivers will stick their hand out the window; that’s not something that we’ve been all that alarmed about,” said NASCAR Senior VP of Competition Elton Sawyer on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Tuesday ahead of the penalty report.

“When you take it to the level that you have modified some of the safety equipment, gloves in particular, and then using that, the penalty at the race track was based off that.”

“Now the next step of that is when you look at safety equipment, and we look at this very hard, we take it very seriously. There’s been numerous meetings over time about safety of the car and the equipment and the drivers, and when you take and alter that, that will be something that we discuss today if it needs to have an additional penalty added to that.”
