Biggest ‘big one’ crash in history of NASCAR
On Sunday, NASCAR raced at Talladega Superspeedway. The 2.66-mile track is a drafting track that bunches up the field into a single pack. And with aggression, the pack can quickly turn into a parking lot.

With just 5 laps to go, the field was going for the race win. At the front of the field, Austin Cindric was turned around backwards into turn three after a bump draft from Brad Keselowski.
NASCAR Cup Series drivers are currently in the Round of 12 of the playoffs. After next week at Charlotte, the four winless drivers with the least amount of points will be eliminated.
28 cars were involved in the crash. That makes it the largest big-one crash in the history of superspeedway racing.
Multiple playoff drivers were involved. The point standings are now a mess heading into next week’s elimination race.

The red flag was displayed after the crash. At time of publishing, no injuries were reported.
“Joey hit me from behind as I pushed him. There’s nothing I could do there,” Keselowski stated over the team radio.
It’s important to note that NASCAR made significant changes to cars ahead of this very race. Those changes were implemented to prevent cars from getting upside down at high speeds when being turned around.

Austin Cindric comments
“Incredibly frustrated,” Austin Cindric told NBC after exiting the infield care center.
“We had a great shot to win the race. I don’t know, I don’t feel like complaining right now. I’m too pissed off and it won’t do anything.”
“That middle of four [wide] stuff for I don’t know how many laps, it’s gotta be some of the craziest stuff I’ve ever been a part of.”
Briscoe added, “Come up short, torn up racecar.”
Joey Logano comments
“I don’t think it could have much different. We had the bottom working fairly well. I got pushed from the No. 21, that transferred to the No. 6 and it transferred to the No. 2, just at a bad angle. Off we went.”
With so many cars parked on the grass after the crash, it was a bit of a mess. Due to the importance of every position, every driver wanted a push or tow back to the pit lane.
“It’s a disaster down there. I don’t really know what to tell you. Put inner-liners in the cars, I guess. Everyone’s just sitting on flat tires and wants to roll but they can’t because they got flat tires. We got this machine that’s going to jack up the back of the car. But, if you’re flat on the fronts, you still can’t steer.”
Logano added, “I gotta stop now. It’s a disaster.”
