NASCAR confiscated a steering wheel in Miami

NASCAR could issue additional penalties to the No. 38 driven by Layne Riggs

Update: Front Row Motorsports issued L1 penalty after Miami

On Saturday, the NASCAR Truck Series raced at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

NASCAR confiscated the steering wheel for the No. 38 Front Row Motorsports Ford driven by Layne Riggs. It happened ahead of the green flag.

After the steering wheel was taken, NASCAR required the team to re-weigh. The truck was 4 pounds light after taking the steering wheel.

It’s not uncommon for NASCAR to confiscate parts during a race weekend. However, the steering wheel isn’t usually a part that would be in question.

The team added weight to the truck ahead of the green flag. They then needed to start the race from the rear of the field.

Earlier this month, Alex Bowman failed to meet weight requirements after the race on the Charlotte Roval. The team elected not to appeal the disqualification nothing it was a team error.

Front Row Motorsports did not make any public comments on the penalty.

After the truck race, Layne Riggs stated, “Leaderboard result doesn’t show what the Loves Travel Stop, Ford Performance F-150 accomplished today. Had to overcome a lot of adversity this weekend. Starting in the tail put us behind but we rallied back to the front and lead a bunch of laps.”

Front Row Motorsports recently opened a lawsuit with 23XI Racing against NASCAR. They are looking for better charter terms regarding their NASCAR Cup Series teams.
