Take a look for yourself as video shows Josef Newgarden’s 2024 Indy 500 winning car on display at the IMS museum with an illegal part modification
Josef Newgarden drove to the Indy 500 win one year ago at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race winning Team Penske team was paid $4.288 million for their efforts.
How much money did the Indy 500 winner make?
Fast forward, as yesterday Team Penske failed Indy 500 pre-qualifying inspection. Two of their cars were found with blending modifications to the the attenuator.
Violation: INDYCAR Rule 14.7.8.16
Both Josef Newgarden and Will Power qualified for the Fast 12. However, nether car turned a lap in qualifying as officials discovered the violation.
The third Team Penske car driven by Scott McLaughlin did not have the same violation.
Indycar issues penalties, fines and suspensions to Team Penske
On Monday, Indycar issued steep penalties to both teams.
An engineer from each entry has been suspended, all qualifying points have been removed and each entry was fined $100,000, a total fine of $200,000 to Team Penske.

They both still qualify for Sunday’s race. However, the cars driven by Will Power and Josef Newgarden have been relegated to the tail of the field for the Indy 500 start.

Now, it appears that it goes deeper.
Josef Newgarden’s 2024 Indy 500 winning car is currently on display at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum. Marshall Pruett had the big brain idea to go investigate.
In the video below, it shows that the winning car currently sitting in the museum has the exact same blending violation on the rear attenuator.
Had this been discovered in post race tech inspection, it would have brought an immediate DQ.
At the same time, since crossing the finish line, the team has had possession of the car. Despite the winning car sitting in the museum, there’s no guarantee that is the same part that was used in the race. The team could have changed it.
But, let’s be real. Why would they take off a legal part and install an illegal one just to put the car in a museum.
