Indianapolis 500 starting lineup set for the famed Indycar race
Update: Josef Newgarden, Will Power relegated to the back of the starting grid following a rule violation
It’s the final day of Indy 500 qualifying. The 2.5-mile of Indianapolis Motor Speedway is set to complete the Indy 500 starting grid.

Yesterday, positions 13-30 were locked into the Indy 500 starting grid. Now, the top 12 from Saturday will run again to set the pole position.
In the opening round of Sunday qualifying, of the 12 cars, only the top 6 will advance into the final round.
Additionally, 31st-34th from yesterday will also take to the track. One of those cars will not make the show.

Qualifying Notes
Scott McLaughlin went airborne in a practice crash earlier today. The car is not ready and McLaughlin will not take part in qualifying.
Will Power and Josef Newgarden have failed pre-qualifying tech inspection. They will not be allowed to turn a qualifying lap.

After the opening round of qualifying, the top 6 advance. Their times are reset and they make another run for the Indy 500 pole.
Pato O’Ward has an issue with his hybrid power boost on his final lap of qualifying in the Fast 6.
The rookie gets it done! Robert Shwartzman, in his first ever oval race of any kind will start from the pole position in the Indy 500. He had an average lap speed of 232.790mph.
He becomes the first rookie pole winner since 1983.
Update
On Monday, Josef Newgarden and Will Power have been penalized after failing pre-qualifying inspection. They have been relegated from 10th and 11th to 32nd and 33rd.
Team strategists for both cars have been suspended. Each car has also been fined $100,000.
