Anthony Alfredo has had his finish in the Daytona Duels disallowed
This weekend, NASCAR is hosting the biggest race of the season. Itโs the famed Daytona 500 on the 2.5-mile oval at Daytona International Speedway.
Anthony Alfredo was an Open car that raced his way into the Daytona 500. He was set to start 38th in the event. The driver was in tears after he finished 18th in Duel 2 to grab the transfer spot.
However, Alfredo has since failed post-race technical inspection. His finish in Duel 2 has been disallowed.
Alfredo will not start the Daytona 500.
NASCAR is currently inspecting the car of BJ McLeod. If that car clears inspection, heโll start the Daytona 500.
Brad Moran noted that the car had a loose transaxle cooling hose. Additionally, a driver cooling hose wasnโt correctly attached.
The team is not allowed to appeal.
NASCAR comments
โFirst of all, unfortunate to be here,โ Brad Moran opened from the Daytona media center.
โAny small, open team, we donโt like to have these problems. But we do have to do our job and make sure thereโs parity amongst the field.โ
โDuring inspection, we noticed this hose. Which is a trans-axle cooling hose. It comes off at the right-side quarter window. Itโs suppose to go into the trans-axle cooler. It needs to be airtight.โ
โNo parts can fall off the car, for obvious reasons. We donโt say what the intent is but these parts have to be fastened properly.โ
โUnfortunately, this one piece wasnโt. And there was also another hose disconnected for driver cooling.โ
Beard Motorsports statement
The team issued the following statement after their finishing position was disallowed:
โWe are proud of our team and the work they put into this NASCAR program,โ Beard Motorsports opened.
โOur intent is to make races, contend for wins and race with integrity. We will review what happened and work to make sure we do not have these issues in the future.โ
โWe are heartbroken for our entire team, our wonderful partners and Anthony and his sweet family.โ
