The attention is working for Hurricane Hocevar

The 23-year-old has an average finish of 15th this season, beating his career best of 18th (2024). He went to victory lane, picking up his first career win at Talladega Superspeedway.

But, on-track, he’s also making enemies left, right and center. And, he doesn’t care. Instead, he leans into various feuds between drivers.

Earlier this season, Hocevar and Zane Smith were in an incident on the track. That led to both drivers exchanging comments on each other. Hocevar stated, “Maybe his T-shirt sales were low.”

Soon after, the No. 77 offered a merchandise trade-in. The first 77 fans that approached their merch trailer with the shirt of any rival, they could exchange it for a new Hocevar shirt. (Chase Elliott: 20 shirts, William Byron: 8 shirts, Zane Smith: 7 shirts, Kyle Larson: 7 shirts)

Now, NASCAR says Hocevar leads in online sales…

Carson Hocevar leads in online merch sales

“From January through May, Hocevar saw the largest percentage increase in cross-platform followers among NASCAR Cup Series drivers, growing his audience across Facebook, Instagram and X by 70.6% and adding nearly 200,000 followers,” NASCAR stated in a press release.

“In the 24 hours following Hocevar’s first career NASCAR Cup Series victory at Talladega, sales of his Lionel Racing diecast ranked as the highest following any NASCAR race win since NASCAR and Lionel formed their joint venture in 2010. The mark surpassed the 24-hour sales following some of the sport’s biggest victories during that span, including Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s 2014 Daytona 500 win.”

“In addition, his merchandise sales continue to accelerate, making him the No. 1 driver currently in retail sales on the NASCAR Shop website and he’s ranked inside the top five of trackside sales. An impressive achievement considering he was ranked 32nd in trackside sales this time last season.”

Joey Logano comments on Carson Hocevar

“I think Carson’s great for the sport,” said three-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Joey Logano on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.

“I think he brings a ton of new fans, different fans. Just the way he is different than the rest of us. The way he speaks, he’s just, he’s younger. Yeah, I don’t know what he’s talking about half the time, I don’t know what these words mean.”

Logano added, “But people love it and there’s no denying that and that’s great, that’s great for our sport.”
