Today, the Indycar Series unloads in Portland, Oregon. It’s the tightest points battle in a long time for the series as Portland International Raceway is set to host the Grand Prix of Portland.

Race Report

Green flag, McLaughlin gets the launch. Power runs side by side with Lungaard into turn one. Lungaard takes 2nd away. Later in lap 1, Grosjean is shoved off track and back on.

Lap 21, green flag pit stops are underway. McLaughlin hits the pit lane.

Lap 25, McLaughlin cycles back to the race lead. Ericsson trails by 3.8 seconds.

Lap 33, Romain Grosjean has been handed a penalty. He missed a corner and failed to re-enter the track correctly and it was deemed cutting the course.

Lap 49, McLaughlin pits from the lead for the primary tires. As he cycles out, Power trails by 4 seconds.

Lap 60

Lap 60, Alex Palou says, “There’s something wrong with the rear.” Palou is struggling and running 11th.

Lap 72, Conor Daly’s car has caught fire on the pit lane. They’re able to put it out quickly but Daly climbs out and calls it a day.

Lap 79, McLaughlin, Power, O’Ward and Newgarden all pit at the same time. McLaughlin cycles back to the lead as Power trails by 1.1 seconds. McLaughlin struggled with Rosenqvist as he exited the pit lane, costing him several seconds.

25 to go, Rinus VeeKay looks to the inside of Jimmie Johnson into turn one. VeeKay cuts back across the track under braking but he’s not clear. VeeKay stuffs Johnson in the wall and the caution is out.

Penalty: VeeKay will serve a pass through penalty.

Green, McLaughlin leads into turn one. O’Ward dives inside of Power in the battle for 2nd. They bang wheels, Power holds 2nd.

16 to go, trouble for Lundgaard as he’s run off track and picked up sponsor signage. He drags the sign back to the pit lane for the crew to remove it, no caution.

5 to go, McLaughlin leads Power by 1 second.
