Richmond International Raceway Removing Grandstands

Richmond International Raceway Removing Grandstands Before April Race

Richmond International Raceway removing grandstands prior to the April NASCAR racing weekend. They will be removing the entire backstretch grandstands.

The grandstand removal project will decrease seating capacity to approximately 60,000, down 9,000.

Richmond Int aceway seating capacity was about 75,000 after the last project a little more than two years ago in 2013. It was cut down to 69,000 in 2015 after the venue slowly widened seats.

The purpose of the Richmond Raceway grandstand removal is to improve the race experience for fans. This is phase two of the track’s construction plan.

In October of 2013, the venue removed its Henrico Tower, a portion of backstretch seating.

Beyond seat removal, RIR is also changing prices for seats in Turn 2. The price changed in planned to accommodate racing fans who purchased the backstretch seat tickets. Those Turn 2 seats will now cost just $35, which was the cost of the seats the Richmond Raceway will be removing.

Richmond Raceway personnel is to determine what will replace the space vacated by the removed stands.
