Shane Stewart to jump out of retirement with Trackhouse support

Stewart retired from full-time dirt sprint car racing at the end of the 2020 season; He’s back!

Shane Stewart is set to climb back behind the wheel. He’ll pilot the No. 71 at the Knoxville Nationals on August 11-14.

The event is the biggest sprint car race of the year. The half-mile track will see 100 drivers going for a purse of $1 million. Stewart has tossed his helmet in the ring.

Last year, Stewart announced that he had retired from full-time racing. He also purchased Port City Raceway, his local track.

Shane Stewart comments

“To say that I am excited to get back behind the wheel of a sprint car is an understatement,” Stewart explained.

“I didn’t think it would happed this year due to my commitment and duties of running Port City Raceway.”

Stewart last drove the No. 71 for Bernie Stuebgen. The pair have linked once again to field the one-off entry at Knoxville.

“Bernie and Betsy Stuebgen have been so good to me and my family over the years, I couldn’t think of a better team to go run the Nationals win,” Stewart added.

Justin Marks is the co-owner of Trackhouse Racing. The NASCAR team recently purchased Chip Ganassi Racing to secure the expansion and charters needed for the future of the startup team.

Now, the Trackhouse brand will be the primary sponsor for Stewart at the Knoxville Raceway.

Stewart added, “To have my good friend Justin Marks supporting the effort with his Trackhouse brand makes this even more exciting for me to get back behind the wheel!”
