Knoxville, Iowa and surrounding areas suffered an unprecedented storm last night. The storm produced hurricane type winds, over land.

80 mph winds were reported in the area surrounding Iowa. Wind speeds of 82 mph were registered at the Ottumwa Airport, just a 42 minute drive from the track.

The city of Knoxville itself was forced to close down a bridge due to the high winds.

The speedway itself saw minor damage. A light pole in turn two was snapped in half. Additionally, trees were down behind the track, near the street.

The track posted the following update:

“We’ve suffered some minor damage due to the high winds yesterday and last night, but nothing that will keep us down. We hope that our racing family and friends can all say the same!”
